Makin secures Kent Open title

Joel Makin has won the $10,000 Kent Open 2017 PSA event, betaing local favourite Josh Masters in the final. Makin, the World number 47 defeated Masters, ranked 58, in straight games 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 in 37 minutes.

Makin’s toughest match of the event came in the quarter finals came against training partner and fellow Warwickshire professional Jan Van Den Herrewegen. Makin coming through a tough encounter to win 11-6, 9-11, 12-10, 13-11 in 71 minutes.

‘Obviously, I am really happy to have won the final today. It is a really nice way to end the season. I feel I played really well, and my movement was good around the court. I had the confidence to do what I wanted to do, and these shots were paying off. I know how hard it was for Josh, however I feel he played well, and gave me a good match. I just want to say a big well done to him.’
