Hassan Khalil Wins English U17 Title

West Warwickshire Sports Club youngster Hassan Khalil went one better than his seeding at the weekend to win the Boys U17 title at the English Junior Championships in Hull.

Khalil advanced comfortably to the semi finals where he beat Staffordshire’s Muhammed Azhan Khan in four games to set up a final against former U15 champion Oliver Green. The Warwickshire player put in a strong performance to claim victory in straight games.

Freedom Fitness and Kenilworth siblings Mariam and Abd-Allah Eissa were also in action and secured strong third place finishes in the Girls U13 and Boys U15 categories respectively.

Mariam coming very close to making the final, just going down 11-9 in the fifth game to Charlie McCrone before recovering to take a 3-0 win in the 3rd/4th place play-off. Abd-Allah losing out in the semi-final to an in form Yusuf Sheikh, then himself taking a commanding win in his play-off match.

Edgbaston Priory’s Meha Shah was the other Warwickshire junior to claim a top 3 finish, this time in the Girls U15’s. Shah pushed eventual winner Amelie Haworth close in their semi-final encounter, then beating Lara Newton to finish on a high.
