Squash Girls Can Event a Huge Success for Leamington Squash Club

On 9th July, Leamington Squash Club celebrated its first Squash Girls Can event, a celebration of women’s squash in the region and across the country, and a chance to inspire a new generation of squash players. This fantastic event was sponsored by Baxi, and supported by England Squash and Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign.  Photography was supplied by Dan Purdue of

The morning of the event was dedicated to inspiring secondary-school-age young people who were given an introduction to squash with a free, two hour taster session. In their brand new SquashGirlsCan tshirts, the participants took part in a warm up, skills-building and competitive play lead by Leamington’s women’s team members and top junior girls.

In the afternoon women of all abilities from across the country took part in a fun and friendly Frantic Squash tournament with 8 teams of five players working together against their opponents to achieve the highest scores.

Following the Frantic Squash tournament, we welcomed world-class female squash stars to our club: World No.7 Sarah-Jane Perry and four-time British National champion Alison Waters, two-time British Junior Open champion Emily Whitlock and World No.15 Victoria Lust, Wales No.1 Tesni Evans and two-time British National champion Jenny Duncalf.

Dividing the participants into courts of 6, the pros moved round each group working on the techniques behind the shots, from boasts and drives to serves and volleys. They shared their top tips from the circuit before offering each participant a chance to Play the Pro!

All ticket holders were then invited to enjoy a buffet and exhibition match played by the pros.

The pros were introduced to the crowd one by one, by Leamington’s junior girls who had researched each player to entertain the crowd.

Once introduced, the pros got down to business, playing rounds of one game each and delighting the crowds.

A fantasics event for squash and a huge well done to all those involved!
