Sarah-Jane Perry Claims Commonwealth Silver!

Kenilworth’s Sarah-Jane Perry produced some memorable performances to win Silver at the Gold Coast Games and was a whisker away taking home gold.

Perry, who trains with the Rob Owen Acadmey out of West Warwicks Sports Club, set up a quarter final with home favourite Donna Urquhart after two straight games victories. The in form Australia took Perry to 1 game apiece before the number 4 seed eased away to take a 3-1 victory.

Wales Tesni Evans had upset the seedings by beating top seed Laura Massaro in the quarters, leaving Perry with a match against her former Kenilworth team mate to earn a place in the final. Perry played some superb squash to win in 3, never giving Tesni a chance to get in front and dominate.

In a memorable final the World number 2 from New Zealand took a 2-0 lead after two tight games. Known for her fighting spirit, Perry was not going down easily and bravely battled back to 2 games all. At 8-8 in the fifth it looked like the title could go either way, King just having the edge to leave the English woman with a Silver medal to be proud of.
